Driving through the Peninsula Hinterland you might be too busy marvelling at the picturesque scenery in front of you to notice the little turn off into this absolute hidden gem - the stunning Red Hill Brewery.

Perched on top of Red Hill, nestled under the hop vines; this rustic, charming barn in the middle of the bush is where delicious craft beer is produced and great BBQ food is served!

Walk through the low hanging trees and head towards the smoke from the firepit; sit in the undercover decking and just take in the scenery with an ice cold pale ale - or Mamma suggests the tasting paddle to sample the seasonal brews. Their award winning beers are made in small batches and offer a range of 6 types available all year plus seasonal specials.

Wrap yourself in a blanket in the cooler months - or enjoy the cool breeze on warmer days. The kids can frolic in the open grassy space and watch the neighbouring horses.

There is a laid back vibe here - perfect for a long lunch with yummy food on offer like brisket, ribs, pulled pork or fried chicken burgers, mac n cheese and loaded fries!

two rupees brewing company, clayton

Two Rupees Brewing Company boasts an impressive lineup of in-house beers on tap, with a more succinct food menu comprising primarily of pizzas to complement.

Surrounded by Clayton’s mechanics and smash repairers, the local favourite, Two Rupees Brewing Company is hidden in plain sight.

The brewpub boasts an impressive menu of beers on tap, with a more succinct food menu comprising primarily of pizzas to complement.

Pizza and beer, what more do you need?! Mamma’s answer… Two Rupee’s delicious and fragrant Sri Lankan pan rolls - curried meat or vegetables wrapped in a crepe and fried until brown and crispy. They were sooo good in fact, that mamma’s 4 year old didn’t even care that they were a little spicy.

So grab the kids and head over to Two Rupees for an easy last minute meal or to watch the footy on one of the many screens dotted throughout the brewery… oh, and they’re dog friendly too so don’t forget to bring the pooch!

bad shepherd brewing co, cheltenham

Mamma loves a suburban brewery and this one is anything but “bad”.

Mamma loves a suburban brewery and this one is anything but “bad”. On the edge of Cheltenham’s industrial and residential precincts, Bad Shepherd Brewing Co has been slinging beers and filling bellies since 2015.

With a rotating tap list of 17 in-house beers and a mouth watering menu of comforting American BBQ classics, it’s easy to understand why Bad Shepherd is a favourite amongst locals.

Sit back and relax with a pint while the kids entertain themselves in the cubby house or grab one of the many board games available and duke it out with the fam over a BBQ platter.

The food here is SO good. Mamma dreams about their brisket and pulled pork while the littlies absolutely devour the corn ribs, chicken and chips and, obviously, the cookies and cream cheesecake.

The good news - their opening times are conducive to early family dinners, so feeding the kids by 5 is not a problem here. If you’ve hit mid week and the idea of rustling up a meal for the fam feels like a bridge too far, Mamma recommends taking advantage of Bad Shepherd’s 50c Wednesday Wings (from 5pm until sold out). With 23 flavours to choose from, it won’t be hard to keep everyone happy!

Mamma loves finding a local gem that the whole family can enjoy - and Dainton Brewery Taphouse in Carrum Downs is exactly that!

The vibe here is very laid back and welcoming to families, there’s even a little playground in the courtyard with a cubbyhouse, stepping blocks and some toys!

Seating covers all weather options - there’s the heated under cover marquee (next to the playground), a more open courtyard for those balmy nights, and plenty of indoor seating too.

The beer is what you come for, and you will not be disappinted! Mamma suggests getting the tasting paddle, which you can tailer to your individual preferences - so you can sample more of their extensive range.

The menu is your standard brewery faves - pizzas, burgers and salads, whilst the kids have their own menu of nuggets, burgers and pizza as well.

It’s a great spot for a relaxed family meal - oh and there’s plenty of take-home beers to choose from, so once you have finished sampling you can take home your favourite!

penni ave distillery, rye

Did you know that there’s a VODKA DISTILLERY in the South? This Mamma did NOT, and WOW, this place is amazing!

Did you know that there’s a VODKA DISTILLERY in the South? This Mamma did NOT, and WOW, this place is amazing! It’s one of a very few dedicated vodka distilleries in Australia.

The idea for this distillery came about while owner Gen was on maternity leave and started creating vodka at home, and then along with her brother, Penni Ave was born! Here they distill the most INCREDIBLE botanical vodka, infused with native botanicals like Lemon Myrtle and Kakadu Plum; you will just love the smooth, and fruity flavours.

You can sample all the flavours with a tasting paddle, or opt for a signature cocktail. Mamma highly recommends the Kakadu Mule - it is incredible! When you discover your favourite, you can buy a bottle to take home or there’s even delicious ready-to-drink cans you take home as well. The Kakadu Plum vodka with lime, ginger and soda is spectacular!

There are rotating food trucks here, so you can grab some food to go along with your beverages, and yep - the kids, and dogs - are more than welcome, too!
There’s also a cafe area serving up amazing coffee if you come along in the morning - with heaps of room for prams it’s a great mothers group catch up space, too!

wolf of the willows, mordialloc

This relatively new taproom in the South offers some great ales and an EXTREMELY family friendly and relaxed vibe.

It doesn’t matter what the weather is doing, it is ALWAYS a good time for a locally made craft beer. This relatively new taproom in the south offers some great ales and is EXTREMELY family friendly, with a relaxed vibe. Cold weather? Sit inside by the fire. Sunny? Enjoy the space under an umbrella in the beer garden!

Try a sample paddle - it’s a great way to make your way through the different flavours on offer. They also make their own seltzers, which are delicious, with flavours like cola - ginger and lime and tropical. You can also buy spirits made from local distilleries.

To accompany your beverages, there’s amazing food from the onsite food truck VanGo. Mamma can highly recommend the Feed Me for 2 grazing board , which includes spring rolls, chicken wings, softshell mud crab sliders and pulled pork tacos - so yum!

Kids aren’t forgotten here - they have an option of nuggets and chips and mini tacos.

The staff are so lovely and it’s the perfect spot for a relaxing family lunch!
