If you’re looking for a fun day out with the kids, pop Drum Theatre on your list, they’ve got some seriously cute family-friendly shows lined up!

Kicking things off these school holidays is Trash with a Porpoise on Thursday 9 April at 11am — a fin-tastic show that will have everyone from tiny tots to big kids hooked. Expect a colourful cast of sea creatures, catchy songs, storytelling and plenty of laughs, all wrapped up with an important message about caring for our oceans.

Make a morning of it, because the fun starts before the curtain even rises. From 10am, a small group of mini ocean lovers can join a free pre-show workshop, helping create a coral reef installation in the foyer using recycled materials. Then after the show, stick around from 12pm for free craft stations where kids can add their own handmade sea creatures to the growing reef.

And if you’re planning ahead, there’s more excitement coming to Drum Theatre later this year, including Bluey’s Big Play The Stage Show (1 August), The Velveteen Rabbit (22 September) and Emma Memma’s Jungle Picnic Tour (28 September).

Mamma says: it’s the perfect mix of entertainment, creativity and just a little bit of learning — without the kids even realising.

Once a month at the Old Cheese Factory community gardens, Dads Matter host a free, hands on gardening experience for kids and their fathers/father figures.

Running for an hour and a half, Gardening Together sessions are super relaxed and designed to foster meaningful interactions between kids, dads, grandfathers and nature.

Enjoy a morning of digging, planting, playing  and getting dirty! Learn about the role different plants play in the garden and how to grow and look after different fruits and vegetables.

Mamma’s kids absolutely loved getting their hands dirty - shovelling dirt into containers, planting seedlings and making seed bombs to attract bees!

All tools and resources are provided on the day but be sure to bring hats, sunscreen and water bottles as the whole session is run outside.

Gardening Together is held on the third Sunday of every month with limited spots available so be sure to head online and book in advance to avoid disappointment.
