deluxe safari tent @ park lane holiday park, phillip island

Now THIS is the only way this Mamma will go camping ever again! Luxury Glamping at its finest!

Now THIS is the only way that Mamma will go camping again! The Deluxe Safari Tents at Park Lane Holiday Park in Phillip Island, are the most luxurious glamping family experience you will ever have.
This is glamping at its finest - think of a deluxe family cabin - but covered by a tent! We’re talking 2 bedrooms - one with 2 sets of bunks, the other with a Queen four-poster bed complete with mosquito net AND electric blanket! A bathroom with a shower, toilet - even a hair dryer. Then there’s the kitchen - mircowave, full size fridge, 4 slice toaster and kettle.

The lounge room has a couch, TV and reverse cycle AC. Not to mention a 6 seater dining table and cute little touches throughout. Mamma’s crew favourite thing was the egg chair! Oh and the games like Monopoly, UNO and puzzles.

Mamma’s favourite was the outdoor decking with a built in BBQ, table and couch. The perfect spot to enjoy your morning coffee listening to the majestic birdsong, whilst trying to spot a nearby koala or wallaby!

The location is fabulous - with Rusty Water Brewery right in front of you and Amaze n Things right next door! (All guests receive 50% off entry fees!).

This is definitely a luxury, and a memory Mamma’s family will never forget!

the funky farm, hastings

All Mamma can say is - wow! What an experience the wonderful Funky Farm is. Where else can you cuddle a wombat? Walk with emus? Wander amongst the wallabies and wonder at the prehistoric likeness of the saltwater crocodiles?

All Mamma can say is - wow! What an experience this wonderful place is. Where else can you cuddle a wombat? Walk with emus? Wander amongst the wallabies and wonder at the prehistoric likeness of the saltwater crocodiles? All included in your admission price - no added on fees to feed or pat ANY incredible animal here. AND, the whole farm is wheelchair accessible - even incorporating perspex fencing so viewing these magnificent animals is always possible.

Included in your ticket is a guided tour, with a fantastic, passionate - very knowledgeable guide, in small groups. So you will have a chance to learn, pat and have a photo with all of the animals.

Mamma can’t help but to have a particular love for the giant, cheeky wombats. There are a couple living here, and they are super friendly and a little bit naughty. You can get right up close, pat and if you’re lucky - you may even get a cuddle from these beautiful creatures.
Then there are the placid dingoes, who love a pat (and may even give your hands a little lick.) Loads of reptiles - lizards of all sizes and even a few huge snakes! You’ll also get to check out some crocodiles!
You’ll also be able to hand feed some kangaroos, wallabies and emus and have a chat to some magnificent coloured birds, some may even chat back to you!

This has to be one of Mamma’s crews all time favourite spots. The lovely owners have some fantastic plans in store to create some shows, and are always adding great new experiences. They’re extremely passionate about inclusiveness and have even created a whole separate section for a pathways program. Check out more about their Mornington Peninsula Wildlife Project here.

All animals at this wildlife sanctuary are rescue animals and they are very much loved members of The Funky Farm family.

*note - You will need to book in advance. No walk ins. The Farm can also come to you! School groups, parties and more.

noble park aquatic centre, noble park

Noble Park Aquatic Centre is a FANTASTIC place to cool off over summer!

Noble Park Aquatic Centre is a FANTASTIC place to cool off over summer! This brilliant facility is ideal for families and will thrill your entire crew.

For the days over 28º, the Aqua Play playground kicks into gear. This water play zone is one of the best designs and bound to cool everyone down. Website does indicate it is an option for kids aged 3 - 12 only. It has three different slides, tipping cones, soaking hoses and cascading fountains. The kids will be buzzing up and down the staircases, all while keeping an eye out for the giant tipping bucket that gushes all over the play area every 5 minutes or so (no we didn’t time it but it feels about right).

In addition to the aqua play there is a giant green tunnel slide that the kids will also love. It’s open for kids 5 plus and at least 120cm. The kids tell me it is only fast in some parts but at this age, they are pretty light on the scale and the bigger kids that were playing at the same time as our list - where really flying down!

The outdoor pool is a great place for a proper swim and has 2 lanes open for play or jump in and cut some laps. There is also a heated indoor pool which is nice and shallow in parts for the toddlers.

gumbuya world, tynong

A theme park that is SUPER fun for the whole family. It’s an animal park, has rollercoasters and thrill rides, and Mamma’s favourite place to cool off at the GIANT water park. You'll find this theme park on the way to Gippsland and is a summer hit!

Forget the Gumbuya Park of your distant childhood. The multimillion dollar upgrade is complete and this entire WORLD is THE place to be for Melbourne families! Think of this place as a zoo, a theme park and a water wonderland all in one.

Gumbuya is well worth tackling in the warmer months to take full advantage of Oasis Springs - the water park with two GIANT tube slides, water splash park (super fun that you have to have to at least try once), racing slides, a wave pool, gentle beach lagoons and Mamma's absolute favourite, the lazy river.

Grab a tube and bob along the shallow water as the tide carries you round and round, watching out for some little waves along the way. Once you are completely waterlogged or Mamma needs to tap out and watch from the sidelines, there are plenty of deck chars, shady spaces and you can even hire your own cabana.

The park also features plenty of rides that are all included in your entry (except the surfs up wave machine). From the cruisey car rides, to dodgems, small roller coasters and a pirate ship, there is plenty to keep your crew entertained. Do be mindful of the height restrictions - and rides range from minimums of 100cms to 120cms (click here for specifics).

The latest addition to the park are the new rollercoasters! The TNT is family friendly with even Mamma’s 5 year old thinking it was awesome as you sit with dangling legs as you are thrown along the track. Then the Project Zero is a little scarier (and only the bigger kids 140cm+ are allowed on this one) as you are suspended upside down in parts, experience 5Gs and reach speeds of 105kmph - yeah … nar… not for this Mamma!

The park remains home to plenty of feathers, furs and scales that can be found along the Wildlife Trail. You will spot all the Aussie friends who also have plenty of room to move in the large enclosures as well as a petting farm to get up close and personal.

Mamma's 'lil tips:

  • Get there early - gates open at 10am and you can pre-purchase your tickets online.

  • Start with the animals while they are more active in the cooler end of the day, work through the rides, and cap off the day in the water!

  • You can take food in but there are also two cafes on site which saves room packing lunches.

  • Lockers are available for hire for all the gear you might need.

  • You can - sorry, WILL - spend an ENTIRE day here so be prepared!

zayak sea sled @ reef board hire, mornington

Kids can check out what’s on the bottom of the ocean, without having to even get their faces wet!

Now THIS is a very cool experience!

Kids can check out what’s on the bottom of the ocean, without having to even get their faces wet!

These boards look like a mix between a kayak and a massage table, offering a neoprene ‘mask’ of sorts, where you look through a glass bottom. It’s like snorkeling without the need to be immersed in water - or breathe through a tube - so much easier for kids!

You can hire a zayak sea sled by the hour and explore the bay, cruising leisurely around the peaceful - and flat - shores of Schnapper Point in Mornington.

The boards come with straps so the little ones can be pulled along, providing the perfect viewing point to check out what lays beneath - coral, fish - Mamma’s crew even saw a starfish or two!

Older kids and adults can paddle along themselves, perhaps with flippers, but they’re not essential.

At the boat shed you can also hire kayaks, paddle boards and boats! Bookings are essential.

Aqua park will have you jumping, sliding, climbing and falling as you try to make your way across the inflatable obstacle course! LOADS of fun!!

Aqua park will have you jumping, sliding, splashing, climbing and falling as you try to make your way across the inflatable obstacle course!

This highly energetic activity is bound to expend some energy, as you balance and bounce through numerous challenges. It’s aimed at kids from 5+ (kids under 10 must be accompanied by an adult) it can be quite challenging and a fair bit of strength is required!

Mamma’s Little Miss 7 had lots of fun, but did need a bit of assistance getting up over some of the higher climbs, and it’s very slippery so expect to fall off .. A LOT!

Each session allows for 50 minutes and a 10 minute safety briefing. 50 minutes might not sound like a long time - but when you’re out there climbing - it is the perfect length of time! But if you are keen - you can purchase a double session.

You can bring your own lunch - or there is a small canteen serving hot food like hot dogs, chips etc.

Time to go an adventure and immerse yourself in the Christmas spirit - and there is NO better place to do just that, than at The Christmas Tree Farm!

The season is now open, so you can head down to this stunning farm, peruse the rows of magnificent trees whilst inhaling that fresh pine scented air. You are sure to find THE perfect tree. Mamma’s crew opted for a smaller tree that had lots of character, as opposed to one of the many perfectly formed splendid trees.

This farm is so much more than just a tree collection point! There’s a gorgeous barn absolutely filled to the brim with Christmas decorations of all shapes and colours, you can also pick up some stocking stuffers like Beanie Boos and other soft teddies.

On the weekends there are tractor rides, BBQ and milkshake huts, and even the big guy himself will make a visit! You can also pose with the giant Santa and Elves statues and purchase ready-cut trees as well.

phillip island chocolate factory, newhaven

Sweet Mamma chocolate dreams! Panny’s Chocolate Factory that rests beside the road as you head through the island is a coco-lover’s haven and the kids will be impressed too.

The Phillip Island Chocolate Factory in Newhaven is one of the first things you will see as you cross the bridge into Phillip Island, and for all those chocolate lovers - it is a must visit!
The factory is a shop, cafe and interactive museum all in one. Tours are self guided and take families through the entire process of chocolate making from bean to packaging. Your ticket is edible - a block of chocolate!

On the walkthrough, you will visit Dame Edna, the chocolate train, the 3D zoetrope all before hitting the side show ally (where you play games to win chocolate!), the chocolate waterfall (YES - A WHOLE WALL OF CHOCOLATE) and the penguin robots- distributing a chocolate pastille).

Finish up by making your own chocolate swirl and watch it slowly cross the conveyor belt where you can then grab and eat it!

Although there is not a lot to sample within the tour, you will be craving it once you finish! And as luck will have it - the cafe and shop is filled to the eyeballs with chocolatey goodness - Mamma can’t get enough of the chocolate caramels and freckles - YUM!

An expert tip to get your kids to eat fruit - take it to where it grows. Montague Orchard in Narre Warren North has a massive range of apples and stone fruit AND you can pick your own to take home while on an orchard tour.

The crew run sessions on weekends and school holidays (when the fruit is nice and ripe of course) where you and the kids can taste test some of the freshest and ripest fruit on the block. The pick your own area is one small part of this massive family owned orchard, which grows some pretty incredible fruit, and in this section alone they grow up to 2000 varieties as part of their research and development orchards. During apple season, keep an eye out for some of the exclusive range of apples - the yello® (guess what colour that one is) PLUS the apple that is red on the inside and the outside!

You are welcome to eat as you pick, and you purchase the rest at a heavily discounted price from Bill’s Orchard Gate once you have spent time in the field. The ground can be a little bumpy (with all those apples on the ground) and it’s also best to wear gumboots if it has been wet.

Mamma’s special mention: if you are not quite full of fruit, head up for lunch at Stella’s Kitchen for a sit down meal, or grab some take away from the Orchard Gate before heading to the lake for a stroll or a splash!

street art walking tour, frankston

Did you know that the lane ways throughout Frankston are covered in some AMAZING art work from world renowned street artists?

Did you know that the lane ways throughout Frankston are covered in some AMAZING art work from world renowned street artists?

You can go on a guided street art tour, which takes approximately 90 minutes, and uncover some fascinating history and meaning behind these incredible artworks. Thanks to The Big Picture Fest (14-20 March 2022) you will see 13 of the city’s newest murals and augmented reality which has recently taken the city centre collection to over 50 artworks. If you would like to conduct a self-guided tour, feel free to download the walking map here.

These tours have win GOLD in the Australian Street Art Awards for Best Street Art Tour. That’s pretty impressive!

Mamma took her crew on a tour recently, and both kids - aged 7 and 9 enjoyed seeing the amazing paintings and asked lots of questions and even survived the 90 minute walk (with only minimal complaining of sore legs!).

It’s a great way to introduce kids to Art, and this tour explained a lot of the meaning behind the paintings, with lots of the work influenced by Covid and isolation, which Mamma’s crew found very interesting.

It’s a great way to take in Frankston and learn more of its history.

red hill trail co, arthurs seat

Looking for adventure? Well, get your motor running and experience the Red Hill Trail on an e-bike!

Looking for adventure? Well, get your motor running!

Or your e-bike riding, actually!
What is an e-bike you may ask? It is just like your regular mountain bike, except it is electric and makes going uphill (almost) seamless. You will still need to pedal, but it takes most of the effort out of the pedalling - basically, it is like you are riding a flat path, even when going up a super steep hill. So it is the perfect way to explore the rugged trails and the stunningly spectacular views of Arthurs Seat and the Red Hill area.

With the super lovely and helpful Father/Son team of Chris and Finn, you are in great hands to help guide you along this 2-3 hour track. They will explain how the e-bike works, and make sure you are in the right gears throughout the different terrain you will encounter.

The track will take you from the top of Arthurs Seat, down through Red Hill and culminate at Merricks, with lots of stops to take in the beauty - and coffee! - along the way.

Now Mamma was totally out of her comfort zone here, having not ridden a bike for over 20 years! So, it may have been a little ambitious! However, thanks to guidance of the lovely operators and encouragement of the crew - made it all the way.

These tours are family friendly, with kids over 8 able to join in! They are also a perfect day trip to have with your friends. There are also different tracks for the more adventurous.

Some little tips and advice:
- make sure you are a confident rider, you don’t need to be super fit, as the e-bike does help - but knowing how to balance and steer are a bonus!!
- E-bikes are a lot different to normal bikes- they are extremely heavy too - so make sure you listen properly to the instructions and get used to the gears before you take off. (You will have a few warm up laps at the carpark to get comfortable before you head off). And if you feel unsure about any part of the trail, just hop off and walk your bike through it.
- Make sure you stop heaps to take in the stunning views, as it really is an amazing ride! ENJOY

Mamma's special mention
There’s lots to see and do while you’re in this gorgeous area - if you want some lunch - check out Red Gum BBQ, if you want to keep the outdoor exercise up - go on the Endeavour Fern gully Rainforest track walk - or for more ideas check out our Mamma Loves Red Hill page.

the big goose, moorooduc

You may think if you have seen one animal farm, then you have seen them all. Let mamma assure you, this is most definitely not the case.

You may think if you have seen one animal farm, then you have seen them all. Let mamma assure you, this is most definitely not the case. Yes, it is a farm. Yes, it does have animals. But it is so much more.
There are so many animals of every variety. Gaggles of geese, calves, baby goats and sheep - everywhere you turn there are more babies

Inside, the kids get to cuddle bunnies, guinea pigs and reptiles.
Stroll out to the farm and see geese waddling along freely, making quite a racket. Enter the wildlife area and see dingoes, wombats, wallabies, camels and deer. Pass by brightly coloured birds, llamas, donkeys, cows, and so many more animals.

Take a ride on the tractor. With the kids legs dangling off the side, take a 10 minute drive around the farm. From this prime position you can view the beauty of this place, as well us have up-close encounters with all of the animals.

PLUS if you visit on a day above 25 degrees, you can splash around in the awesome splash park!

Then there's the magnificent, multi-level playground. Fun for all ages, having a smaller sandpit area for the young ones, and more adventurous offerings for older kids. There’s even mini golf!

This really is such an amazing place, the whole family will love it. The staff are so kind and welcoming and really go out of their way to make it a special experience for everyone.

Here’s a once-in-a-lifetime bucket list experience for little (and not so little) supercar lovers!

A perfect special birthday treat, or celebration - or a great incentive to save up their pocket money - kids are absolutely going to LOVE this experience.

Mamma’s Little Mr is Lamborghini obsessed, so just the pure sight of this shiny, sleek car up close was enough to blow his mind. BUT, to find out he actually gets to go for a drive in it - made all his dreams come true.

You can choose from a 15, 30 or 60 minute drive. In either a Lamborghini or Ferrari. Adults even have the option to take it for a spin themselves! 15 minutes was a perfect length of time for Little Mr. Enough to feel the thrill of the take off as well as take in some sights of the stunning Mornington Peninsula.

The whole trip is also filmed from both the outside and inside, so you have the opportunity to take home the footage, ensuring the memory lives on forever. The drivers all have working with children checks, and are just lovely.

Get in touch with them to find out about special birthday drive by options as well. They can bring a cake and balloons to your house - Mamma has been informed there’s also a special Batman driver as well - perfect for those kids who aren’t yet old enough for a spin.

This really is such a treat, and what memories are made of; as Little Mr says - BEST. DAY. EVER!
