Springvale library is a state-of-the-art, award winning and architecturally beautiful space that still manages to create a welcoming atmosphere like the community hub it sits on.

Outside, the space offers plenty of sensory and engaging experiences for kids to enjoy - a rainbow walkway, basketball court, table tennis tables, play equipment, pathways and trails as well as a water feature which Mamma’s 3 year old repurposed as his very own water play area (great for those warmer months but bring a change of clothes).

You’ll also notice from the outside, that this library has an onsite cafe (whhaaaat?!). With a service counter inside the library and a kiosk accessible externally from the hub’s grounds, Lucky Lulu serves up barista made coffee as well as pastries and cakes 6 days a week.

Now onto the main event - the library itself. Spanning over two levels, this space is immense. The Children’s Library/Junior Space can be found downstairs and is instantly identifiable by its red stepped amphitheater and blue craft/play corner. With rows and rows of kids books, pebble ottomans and even a small, cave like outdoor enclosure, this is a space you’ll need to lure the kids out of with a babychino and cookie from Lulus.

Upstairs, you’ll find plenty of seating options, quiet room, study studio, outdoor balcony space and “The Lounge” - an interactive, multipurpose rotunda where you can choose to study or watch tv/play video games.

The library has multiple programs to support children up to the age of 12 - from Baby Bounce and Storytime (sensitive sessions also available) for the littlies to their Family Fun program and school holidays activities for the bigger kids.

sandringham library, sandringham

Libraries are such a great and cost effective way to get the kids out of the house… and if you can find one with an epic children’s section, even better! Sharing the space with a maternal and child health centre, Sandringham Library’s kids section is not only beautifully decorated but designed to be incredibly family friendly.

Libraries are such a great and cost effective way to get the kids out of the house… and if you can find one with an epic children’s section, even better!

Sharing the space with a maternal and child health centre, Sandringham Library’s kids section is not only beautifully decorated but designed to be incredibly family friendly.

There are a multitude of plush toys dotted around the space, striking paper decorations and one of the most charming busy board walls Mamma has ever seen.

With plenty of room to park the pram and lay out a muslin or play mat, it is easy to see why this is a popular gathering spot for new parent groups.

Like other libraries, Sandringham also offers baby rhyme, toddler and preschool story times during the week, with specific schedules available on the bayside council website.

Bigger kids are absolutely catered for here as well with many S.T.E.M. related kits (such as Micro:bits, Gravity Mazes and bot building) available to borrow. There is also a “Create Play Learn” room here which gives budding tech heads and creatives access to tools such as 3D printers, VR headsets and craft cutters.

With so many free resources and events held here, Sandy library is a community space for the whole family.
