Attention messy play fans! Mamma has found another gem in the south courtesy of Make a Mess with Poppy.
Located in Somerville, Poppy’s wonderful space is split up into an imaginative play zone and fenced off messy play area. Kids can jump between the spaces as much as they please during their 1.5 hour session, which will find them engaging in a variety of open ended activities.
Let the kids get messy with a selection of sensory stations that help to develop their fine motor, social and cognitive skills… but with none of the clean up! Mr 4 loved decorating cakes and making ‘icecreams’ while Mamms’s 1 year old could not get enough of the painting and spaghetti stations, only being lured away by every toddler’s siren song - BUBBLES.
The imaginative play zone is decked out with a mini supermarket, bakery, construction zone, cafe, dress ups and home corner - designed for children to explore and engage with unstructured play.
Don’t worry grown ups, you’re looked after too! There's a sit down area positioned perfectly to watch you kids while they play, plus coffee as well and sweet and savoury food available to purchase. Parents are given the opportunity to take a breath while the kids have the time of their lives!

Mamma’s crew have had a lot of adventures over the years, but Activate by Hardrock in Moorabbin offers something completely unique - and not for the feint-hearted! Chuck on your hard hat, switch on your headlight, take a deep breath and go spelunking in artificial caves- a one-of-a-kind in Melbourne!
Throughout the 85m of cave tunnels, you will squeeze between obstacles, over and under stalactite chambers and even land in little artificial water holes filled with plastic balls. You can opt to just be guided by your helmet torch, or they can switch on the lights if you prefer. These tunnels are very realistic, and narrow in parts - not for the claustrophobic ones (like Mamma!). Mamma’s crew said it was the coolest thing they’ve done - high praise for teens!
Then there is the Rock Climbing room, full of dozens of challenging climbs - ones where you can race others, race against time, even a climb in the dark with glow in the dark rocks!
You can also opt to add on some more adventure for risk takers - the Vertical Drop Slide - where you hold on to a handle and get lifted up to the top of huge slide - then let go and slide down FAST to the bottom!
And the Leap of Faith - where you climb up a very high ladder, walk out onto the ledge and then jump off to grab (or try to!) either a trapeze bar or boxing bag!
There’s loads of fun to be had here and a perfect adventure packed family day out for tweens and teens!
