Whether the fam are there to grab some fresh produce, meat, coffee or hot food, the farmers market delivers on all accounts.
Mamma can’t go past the fresh scones baked on site, the frozen orange juice slushies and the spiced sourdough fruit loaf, teaming with dried figs, apricots and apple.
If the food and groceries don’t get the kids excited, then the market’s proximity to Kingston Heath Reserve playground will do the trick. So once you’ve ticked everything off the shopping list, grab a coffee and a pastry, take a seat by the play equipment and watch the kids climb and slide their way into the afternoon.

dandenong market, dandenong
You will be hard pressed to find a spot that is more multicultural and diverse than the Dandenong Market. Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturday and Sundays!
We love a visit to the market. The freshest of foods, the local suppliers and all the bargains to be had - especially when buying in bulk. Dandenong Market is the largest fresh food market in the south east and is a true Mamma favourite. There is always something new and different to discover, all while the vibe at the markets remains the same. It’s warm and welcoming and an experience for the whole family.
Over the years we have developed some great habits for planning our trip. We start in the Bazaar, visiting all the unique stall holders and find some amazing treasures. From keyring and souvenirs, pet supplies and magical toys - you are bound to find something cool here - so remember to pack the pocket money. Then of course, have a play in the playground!
Then head up and pick up your pantry supplies, breads, spices and for the kids, a stop in at the lolly shop. We might then need to have an other pit stop - of the tasty variety this time, and grab a bite to eat. This is were the decision making can get tricky BUT the benefit of having hundreds of different cultures under one roof, you can all try something different for lunch. You can go the Dutch Poffertjes, or the fresh dumplings. Maybe you will go a curry or a burger. The options are endless.
Finally, we hit up the fresh food section and stock up for the week. Fresh is the name of the game here at Dandenong AND the prices are incredible compared to the supermarkets. Last visit, the bananas were less than half price per kilo that I would find at the big shops, the watermelons were the size of a basketball and the herbs were incredible.
Mamma's special mention: The market hosts a number of festivals throughout the year celebrating the amazing vibrancy in the market community as well as fun days for the family. Watch this space for the latest events.
