Ahoy there me hearties! It’s time to set sail with those little scallywags and head to Keysborough’s hidden treasure - Somerfield Reserve Playground aka Pirate Park.

Ahoy there me hearties! It’s time to set sail with those little scallywags and head to Keysborough’s hidden treasure - Somerfield Reserve Playground aka Pirate Park.

With two pirate ships and a towering look out to plunder, Mamma’s little pirates had no trouble spending several hours sailing the seven seas and making Mister Mamma repeatedly walk the plank.

Nestled amongst the overt pirate themed equipment are playground classics like seesaws, a nest swing, carousel ring and huge metal tunnel slide.

Once the kids have wrangled the octopus seesaw, rung the ships bell and followed the multiple paths dotted with rum barrels, they might just be lucky enough to see a pod of seals sunbathing by the rocks.

If you are looking for the ultimate playground - you’ve come to the right place! Fully fenced - Waterplay - Massive slides AND toilets!

WOW! This spacious, all abilities playground ticks EVERY box!

If you are looking for the ultimate playground - you’ve come to the right place! If you could dream up your fantasy playground, chances are that THIS playground will have it all!

Something challenging for the older kids? Yep. We’re talking a super-high open wire tunnel connecting one HUGE twirly slide to another structure with two smaller slides. Leading up to the slide is an intricate rope ladder staircase - definitely for the brave!

The older kids will also love the hamster wheel - trying to keep upright proves a challenge - especially when you have someone spinning it from the outside - loads of fun. There’s a square swing set with 5 swings - including one with a harness.

Surrounding the slide structure- which also encompasses a rock climbing wall, rope ladder, climbing poles, cubby and nest swings; is a cement path - perfection for bikes and scooters! This path weaves throughout the playground.

On the other side of the path - opposite the slides is a dual zip liner - one with a disc seat and the other with a harness. Four mini in-ground trampolines, a climbing/balancing section with multiple wooden logs, a hammock and a rolling slide.

How about things to keep the toddlers happy? TICK! There’s a separate section for them as well. This is great - it is mostly under shade sails and consists of a huge sandpit - with a bridge over a dry rock bed, and musical instruments. In the sand pit there is a digger, bucket and chain sand play equipment AND a water tap which empties down little paths to create a small stream of MUDDY PLAY! Heaven for those little hands!

Opposite the sand play is a carousel that has room for standing, a small seat and room for a wheelchair. Swing sets - including a nest swing, Liberty swing and an awesome expression swing!

There’s also two undercover picnic areas and BBQ facilities. AND yes, there ARE toilets, and YES it is FULLY FENCED!

So pretty much playground paradise here folks!

Mamma’s special mention: Keep the fun going and head to Crazy Climb!

What a terrific space this is! At the back of Springvale Library and nestled between Springvale Town Hall is this wonderful NEW playground.

What a terrific space this is! At the back of Springvale Library and nestled between Springvale Town Hall is this wonderful NEW playground.
The first things you will notice are the landscaped gardens and awesome large trees that the playground is set around, providing both shade and such stunning scenery. But what the kids will notice first is the huge Ninja-style climbing obstacle course! They can test their strength and balance as they master the course.
And for the littler ones - perhaps it will be the sandpit they love most, especially as it is part of an awesome WATERPLAY set up! There is a water pump that leads to a wooden beam, cascading over rocks and sending the water off into the sand play area.
You’ll also find swings, slides (a super fast slide - so watch out for the little ones), an inground spinning wheel, music wheels (in the shape of 50 cent coins, where it sounds like coins are spinning inside) stepping stones, balance beams and more. There are community style picnic tables, a rotunda, BBQs, and open grassy area - perfect to set up a picnic.

Note - there are no toilets in the playground, but there are sure to be some in Springvale Library when re-opened.

Mamma's special mention: Head around the corner and grab some delicious Daniels Donuts to enjoy with your play.

pencil park, keysborough

Mamma loves a themed park, so when she heard there was a park with huge pencils randomly spread we had to visit!

Mamma loves a newly updated playground! And what a difference this playground has made to what was already a fantastic space!
With new equipment including a zip liner, in-ground mini trampoline, huge climbing structure with net tunnel and rock-climbing walls, inclusive carousel, swings, musical chimes, small obstacle course and a spinning net pyramid - there is something for everyone!

There is also a gorgeous lake with a walking path over the bridge and through wetlands where there are ducks swimming and frogs croaking. Simply beautiful and unexpected.
Mamma also loved watching the locals do their tai chi in the morning sun!

There’s plenty of open fields, perfect for a picnic and kicking a footy!
Definitely worth adding this one to your list for a sunny day stroll. The only downside is that there are no toilets.

dandenong park, dandenong

A completely fenced park with one of the largest sand pit we have ever seen. Not only is it a maze of logs and stepping stones and has everyone's favourite digger - but there is water.

The best thing about a fenced playground is the reaction your shoulders have when you walk inside and close the gate. Your shoulders go down. You let a big breath out. It is that feeling of relaxed. Knowing that little one or two of yours is contained and that road over there is one thing less for you to worry about. Mamma had that reaction here at Dandenong Park. A completely fenced park with one of the largest sand pit we have ever seen. Not only is it a maze of logs and stepping stones and has everyone's favourite digger - but there is water. A 'castle' style wall with a tap with an automatic stop, lets water trail into the sand leaving the castle making opportunities endless. You'll find other things here too - spinners, rocking horses, a big climbing structure with a spiral slide and a look-out tower in the opposite corner.

Mamma's special mention: Dandenong has plenty of great family friendly spots including the library, the market and in the suburb JUST next door Myuna Farm.

This playground has a wooden boat-style shape, with a HEAP to keep the whole family happy.

This great community park was designed with input from Dandenong residents and Primary School children. This is evident with the colourful artwork and monster designs!

The playground is mainly of a wooden boat-style shape, with a HEAP to keep everyone occupied.
It has everything that you could want to keep the whole family happy.
For the littlest ones there's a sandpit, swings, small slide, tunnels to climb though and 'monsters' to climb.
For the older ones there are a heap of climbing options, diggers, monkey bars, fireman pole, double slide, chain bridge, flying fox, balance beam, pipe phones - and so much more.

For the adults, there are tables under cover, walking tracks, boardwalk, off-leash dog park (enclosed) and a flora/fauna area.
With plenty of space, heaps of shady trees and mostly enclosed - it is a perfect picnic spot.

tatterson 'big bug' park, keysborough

Talk about magic. As soon as you step through the magnifying glass you shrink and the bugs become GIANT.

Talk about magic. As soon as you step through the magnifying glass you and the family will shrink and the bugs become GIANT. Be sure to be on the lookout for spiders, ants, a beehive and a lady bird or two!

The Tatterson Park Playspace is great for the imagination and it is huge. Completely covered in shade sails it is great all year round, though can get a little boggy in the wetter months. Apart from bugs there are multiple play structures, a range of slides, plenty of things to climb and crawl through and a flying fox too! Add six swings, a great big sand and water play area, sheltered seating and public toilets with plenty of playing fields and a basketball court alongside, it makes this playground a Mamma's big hit!
