Shops to play in, a flying fox to zoom down and a treehouse to climb – Heights Park in Chelsea Heights has plenty to keep little adventurers busy! With big and little slides, swings, a sandpit and balancing challenges galore, it’s a great one to add to your playground hit list.
Looking for a playground that will keep the kids busy while you sneak in a coffee? Heights Park on Thames Promenade in Chelsea Heights is one to add to your playground hit list!
There’s plenty to keep everyone entertained, little shop keepers will be delighted to find 3 ‘shops’ ready for imaginative play and as many tanbark coffees as they can make. The whole family can even jump aboard the see-saw, while the sandpit is ready for a spot of digging, building and of course, getting sand into and onto everything!
For the kids who love to climb, balance and test their skills, there are large natural stepping stones woven throughout the playground, balance poles, a balance beam and a rock-climbing wall. Makes for an exciting adventure to the top level of the tree house! There’s also a flying fox, plus big and little slides, swings for the bigger kids and a basket swing for littler adventurers.
A few things to be mindful of, there is an undercover area for when you need a little break from the elements, although it isn’t visible from the main playground area, so keep that in mind if you’re hoping to sit back while the kids play. There aren’t any toilets here, so be sure to go before you set out! And this mamma was relieved to see the playground is fenced off from the main road, but it isn’t fully enclosed, so little wanderers will still need a watchful eye.
As the park is still new, there isn’t a huge amount of greenery just yet. But with established trees already surrounding the playground and new plants growing in, we can see this space becoming a lovely leafy spot to play as everything grows.
But this Mamma loves that Heights Park is right across the road from the Thames Promenade shopping strip. Grab a takeaway coffee, pick up some snacks or make a lunch stop part of your outing. Because let’s be honest, playground adventures work up an appetite!

Sail the seven seas aboard Talbot Park playground’s very own pirate ship or glide through the air on the reserve’s brand new flying fox. With ample ropes to climb, towers to explore, large tunnel slide and multiple swings to choose from, this mamma’s kids had to be lured back to the car with cheese sticks and sultanas.
Mamma loves a good playground transformation and Oakleigh South’s Talbot Park Playspace is no exception. After two and a half years of public consultation, planning and designing, this new playground has everything little hearts could desire.
Sail the seven seas aboard Talbot Park’s very own pirate ship or glide through the air on the reserve’s brand new flying fox. With ample ropes to climb, towers to explore, large tunnel slide and multiple swings to choose from, this mamma’s kids had to be lured back to the car with cheese sticks and sultanas.
With a strong focus on complimenting the newly established landscaping, most of the equipment is wood based with splashes of neutral grey which beautifully highlight the gorgeous native trees that surround the reserve.
18th century ball game lovers should follow the path past the nest swing, beyond the flying fox and across the old toilet block, to find two bocce courts (aka stretches of compressed sand for the kids to roll around in) which are due to be upgraded in the coming months.
There is some shade cover over the pirate ship and newly renovated picnic table/bbq area but other than that the playspace is very much open to the elements, as is the rest of the reserve.
Though fully fenced (and gated) from the main road, mamma’s need to be mindful that little legs are still able to gain easy access to the reserve’s carpark which sits conveniently next to the playground.
