yabbie hill playscape at jells park, wheelers hill

This multimillion dollar, nature-based playground at Jells Park is incredible. Not only is it GIANT, but it has countless features that this Mamma hasn’t seen anywhere else. The design has used the hillside (Yabbie Hill) to its advantage, as the different zones all follow the dry creek bed down the hill, from the amazing mosaic map of the local area, right down to the sand and turtle with her babies at the bottom. Each section along the way celebrates and teaches about the local native animals. We found a mob of kangaroos, a giant yabbie, cute possums and some beautiful bird wings, sharing information about our feathered friends.

On top of the classic features - swings, slides and telephone pipes - that you find in all great playgrounds, there are also trampolines, a ropes course, floating rocks, huge sand pit complete with some small water pumps, round cubby houses and plenty of community circles to sit and chat! This place buzzes with life on a beautiful day but there is so many pockets and spaces, you don’t feel like you are on top of each other at all! Plus, now that the trees have grown (check the difference from 2021 in the photos below), there are is great shade cover in many areas.

It is also nice and close to the cafe, the car parks and the toilets! We are super impressed by this amazing playscape and can see this being a family hit for many years to come.
