Neon Fields - part of the South Side Festival, is BACK for 4 nights only this May.

Beauty Park in Frankston will be lit up up once again; turning the park into a colourful, glowing space perfect for an evening wander.

Whether you're heading out with friends, bringing the kids, or just up for a peaceful solo stroll, there’s something calming (and a little bit magical) about exploring lights after dark. Some of the popular installations from previous years will return, along with a few new ones.

This is the perfect opportunity for the ultimate glowing selfies! Mamma’s crew especially loved the underwater themed installations last year - and can’t wait to check out what’s new this year!

Grab a jacket, pick up a hot chocolate or a treat from one of the food stalls, and take your time exploring the neon displays.

The event is FREE and open to all ages, but kids under 12 will need to be with an adult.

The South Side Festival is happening from 8th - 18th May - more info here

villains of story time: australian sand sculpting champions, frankston

If you're after something a bit different to do with the fam, check out the Australian Sand Sculpting Championship at Frankston Waterfront. This year's theme is "The Villains of Storytime", so expect to see some familiar baddies brought to life!

If you're after something a bit different to do with the fam, check out the Australian Sand Sculpting Championship at Frankston Waterfront. This year's theme is "The Villains of Storytime", so expect to see some familiar baddies brought to life!

Over 300 tonnes of sand has been shaped, sculpted, and transformed by some of Australia’s best sand artists, and they are incredible. Mamma’s Little Miss was in awe and couldn’t believe that somebody actually sculpted these characters by hand! You can tell that there has been HOURS of work put into these.

You can get involved too by voting for your favourite sculpture, winners will be crowned Australian Champion and Doubles Champions based on public votes. It was a tough decision on which incredible sculptures got our votes - but our faves were; The Joker, The Big Bad Wolf, Ursula and Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. But we loved them all!

Beyond the sculptures, there's plenty happening to keep everyone entertained, including:

  • Sand art and sand bottle activities

  • Mini golf

  • A giant sand pit

  • Food trucks

  • A kids’ activity booklet

  • The Sand Museum

  • Speed carving demos

It’s a great little adventure day out! Just remember to bring a hat and sunscreen as the tables, sandpit and mini golf are uncovered.

Be prepared to be blown away by the stunning Lightfall experience at Cranbourne Botanic Gardens!

Lightfall is an exclusive, one-of-a-kind light trail brought to you by the creators of the sold-out Lightscape. Here you get the opportunity to explore Cranbourne Botanic Gardens after the sun has set, when the gardens light up like never before – think dazzling light sculptures set to a background of beautiful music that changes to reflect the area you walk through. It really is such a stunning and immersive scene.

The trail itself is a one-way 40 minute walk - about 1km, it is pram/wheel chair friendly, though some parts are a bit rocky. You can purchase some drinks and food from the food trucks at the start or a small kiosk about mid-way.

It’s a great way to explore the gardens at night time!
