villains of story time: australian sand sculpting champions, frankston

If you're after something a bit different to do with the fam, check out the Australian Sand Sculpting Championship at Frankston Waterfront. This year's theme is "The Villains of Storytime", so expect to see some familiar baddies brought to life!

Over 300 tonnes of sand has been shaped, sculpted, and transformed by some of Australia’s best sand artists, and they are incredible. Mamma’s Little Miss was in awe and couldn’t believe that somebody actually sculpted these characters by hand! You can tell that there has been HOURS of work put into these.

You can get involved too by voting for your favourite sculpture, winners will be crowned Australian Champion and Doubles Champions based on public votes. It was a tough decision on which incredible sculptures got our votes - but our faves were; The Joker, The Big Bad Wolf, Ursula and Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. But we loved them all!

Beyond the sculptures, there's plenty happening to keep everyone entertained, including:

  • Sand art and sand bottle activities

  • Mini golf

  • A giant sand pit

  • Food trucks

  • A kids’ activity booklet

  • The Sand Museum

  • Speed carving demos

It’s a great little adventure day out! Just remember to bring a hat and sunscreen as the tables, sandpit and mini golf are uncovered.
