phillip island chocolate factory, newhaven
Sweet Mamma chocolate dreams! Panny’s Chocolate Factory that rests beside the road as you head through the island is a coco-lover’s haven and the kids will be impressed too.
The Phillip Island Chocolate Factory in Newhaven is one of the first things you will see as you cross the bridge into Phillip Island, and for all those chocolate lovers - it is a must visit!
The factory is a shop, cafe and interactive museum all in one. Tours are self guided and take families through the entire process of chocolate making from bean to packaging. Your ticket is edible - a block of chocolate!
On the walkthrough, you will visit Dame Edna, the chocolate train, the 3D zoetrope all before hitting the side show ally (where you play games to win chocolate!), the chocolate waterfall (YES - A WHOLE WALL OF CHOCOLATE) and the penguin robots- distributing a chocolate pastille).
Finish up by making your own chocolate swirl and watch it slowly cross the conveyor belt where you can then grab and eat it!
Although there is not a lot to sample within the tour, you will be craving it once you finish! And as luck will have it - the cafe and shop is filled to the eyeballs with chocolatey goodness - Mamma can’t get enough of the chocolate caramels and freckles - YUM!
Note - on rainy days you will see this place practically overflowing with peeps, consider this a friendly warning!

An expert tip to get your kids to eat fruit - take it to where it grows. Montague Orchard in Narre Warren North has a massive range of apples and stone fruit AND you can pick your own to take home while on an orchard tour.
The crew run sessions on weekends and school holidays (when the fruit is nice and ripe of course) where you and the kids can taste test some of the freshest and ripest fruit on the block. The pick your own area is one small part of this massive family owned orchard, which grows some pretty incredible fruit, and in this section alone they grow up to 2000 varieties as part of their research and development orchards. During apple season, keep an eye out for some of the exclusive range of apples - the yello® (guess what colour that one is) PLUS the apple that is red on the inside and the outside!
You are welcome to eat as you pick, and you purchase the rest at a heavily discounted price from Bill’s Orchard Gate once you have spent time in the field. The ground can be a little bumpy (with all those apples on the ground) and it’s also best to wear gumboots if it has been wet.
Mamma’s special mention: if you are not quite full of fruit, head up for lunch at Stella’s Kitchen for a sit down meal, or grab some take away from the Orchard Gate before heading to the lake for a stroll or a splash!

Did you know that the lane ways throughout Frankston are covered in some AMAZING art work from world renowned street artists?
You can go on a guided street art tour, which takes approximately 90 minutes, and uncover some fascinating history and meaning behind these incredible artworks. Thanks to The Big Picture Fest (14-20 March 2022) you will see 13 of the city’s newest murals and augmented reality which has recently taken the city centre collection to over 50 artworks. If you would like to conduct a self-guided tour, feel free to download the walking map here.
These tours have win GOLD in the Australian Street Art Awards for Best Street Art Tour. That’s pretty impressive!
Mamma took her crew on a tour recently, and both kids - aged 7 and 9 enjoyed seeing the amazing paintings and asked lots of questions and even survived the 90 minute walk (with only minimal complaining of sore legs!).

It’s a great way to introduce kids to Art, and this tour explained a lot of the meaning behind the paintings, with lots of the work influenced by Covid and isolation, which Mamma’s crew found very interesting.
It’s a great way to take in Frankston and learn more of its history.

Looking for adventure? Well, get your motor running and experience the Red Hill Trail on an e-bike!
Looking for adventure? Well, get your motor running!
Or your e-bike riding, actually!
What is an e-bike you may ask? It is just like your regular mountain bike, except it is electric and makes going uphill (almost) seamless. You will still need to pedal, but it takes most of the effort out of the pedalling - basically, it is like you are riding a flat path, even when going up a super steep hill. So it is the perfect way to explore the rugged trails and the stunningly spectacular views of Arthurs Seat and the Red Hill area.
With the super lovely and helpful Father/Son team of Chris and Finn, you are in great hands to help guide you along this 2-3 hour track. They will explain how the e-bike works, and make sure you are in the right gears throughout the different terrain you will encounter.
The track will take you from the top of Arthurs Seat, down through Red Hill and culminate at Merricks, with lots of stops to take in the beauty - and coffee! - along the way.
Now Mamma was totally out of her comfort zone here, having not ridden a bike for over 20 years! So, it may have been a little ambitious! However, thanks to guidance of the lovely operators and encouragement of the crew - made it all the way.
These tours are family friendly, with kids over 8 able to join in! They are also a perfect day trip to have with your friends. There are also different tracks for the more adventurous.

Some little tips and advice:
- make sure you are a confident rider, you don’t need to be super fit, as the e-bike does help - but knowing how to balance and steer are a bonus!!
- E-bikes are a lot different to normal bikes- they are extremely heavy too - so make sure you listen properly to the instructions and get used to the gears before you take off. (You will have a few warm up laps at the carpark to get comfortable before you head off). And if you feel unsure about any part of the trail, just hop off and walk your bike through it.
- Make sure you stop heaps to take in the stunning views, as it really is an amazing ride! ENJOY

You may think if you have seen one animal farm, then you have seen them all. Let mamma assure you, this is most definitely not the case. Yes, it is a farm. Yes, it does have animals. But it is so much more.
There are so many animals of every variety. Gaggles of geese, calves, baby goats and sheep - everywhere you turn there are more babies
Inside, the kids get to cuddle bunnies, guinea pigs and reptiles.
Stroll out to the farm and see geese waddling along freely, making quite a racket. Enter the wildlife area and see dingoes, wombats, wallabies, camels and deer. Pass by brightly coloured birds, llamas, donkeys, cows, and so many more animals.
Take a ride on the tractor. With the kids legs dangling off the side, take a 10 minute drive around the farm. From this prime position you can view the beauty of this place, as well us have up-close encounters with all of the animals.
PLUS if you visit on a day above 25 degrees, you can splash around in the awesome splash park!
Then there's the magnificent, multi-level playground. Fun for all ages, having a smaller sandpit area for the young ones, and more adventurous offerings for older kids. There’s even mini golf!

A perfect special birthday treat, or celebration - or a great incentive to save up their pocket money - kids are absolutely going to LOVE this experience.
Mamma’s Little Mr is Lamborghini obsessed, so just the pure sight of this shiny, sleek car up close was enough to blow his mind. BUT, to find out he actually gets to go for a drive in it - made all his dreams come true.
You can choose from a 15, 30 or 60 minute drive. In either a Lamborghini or Ferrari. Adults even have the option to take it for a spin themselves! 15 minutes was a perfect length of time for Little Mr. Enough to feel the thrill of the take off as well as take in some sights of the stunning Mornington Peninsula.
The whole trip is also filmed from both the outside and inside, so you have the opportunity to take home the footage, ensuring the memory lives on forever. The drivers all have working with children checks, and are just lovely.
Get in touch with them to find out about special birthday drive by options as well. They can bring a cake and balloons to your house - Mamma has been informed there’s also a special Batman driver as well - perfect for those kids who aren’t yet old enough for a spin.

Strawberry lovers you will be in heaven when you walk into this little netted farm, surrounded by over 4000 plants! The sweet aroma will have you salivating to sample one of these super red and super delicious strawberries.
This is Phillip Island's first strawberry farm to use a hydroponic vertical tower growing system. Which means there’s no prickly spikes getting in the way of picking fruit and they’re all around your eye level making them more tempting and easier to reach! Please note - for the time being, U-pick is currently not available, but you can definitely walk around and be offered samples and their farmgate is available to purchase. It will soon be available for U-pick - so keep your eyes on their socials here.
This farm, owned by the most lovely and passionate Phillip Island locals, is brand new and has only been operating for about one month. Owner Roger, together with is wife Faye, created this hydroponic farm after learning all about the vertical growing system and finding it fascinating. Coming from a plumbing background, he was familiar with the inner workings. His love for what he grows is clearly evident, and his hope to further the farm into supplying produce to local businesses is very inspiring. As well as strawberries, they also grow cucumbers, tomatoes and beans and are in the process of trialling other produce.
Head on down and have a chat and learn all about these systems, you may even be tempted to start your own, like Mamma!

The course itself is stunning. With lots of space, leafy trees and shade sails. There’s no novelty holes here - just a miniature - but lots of fun - version of a full scale golf course; offering the little ones a real taste of golf.
