cape schanck lighthouse reserve, cape schanck

Feeling like some outdoor adventure with the kiddos? Well, Cape Schanck Lighthouse Reserve is the perfect place for you!

Located on the traditional Country of the Bunurong People, the Cape Schanck Lighthouse truly is a beauty. Perched right on the top of dramatic cliffs, the Lighthouse has enabled the safe passage of ships since 1859 - that’s over 165 years, wowsers!

Join the guided tour of the heritage listed lighthouse and hear the fascinating stories of the light keepers - make sure you check out the dates online that these tours run before heading on down! You’ll be able to climb the steps up to the still functioning lamp room for spectacular views over the Southern Peninsula and Bass Strait. There’s also a museum where you can learn more about the history of this place.

Do you and the kids like a nature walk? Start the 2.6km Bushrangers Bay Track towards the Cape from the carpark, providing some of the best scenic views that you’ll see. The wooden staircase and boardwalk takes you all the way to the beach and rock platform, with several lookouts on the way.

Cape Schanck Lighthouse is truly stunning - the views of the wild beaches, dramatic volcanic features, the history and the good old fashioned fresh air makes this the perfect adventure for you!
