The Skyline Ferris Wheel at Catani Gardens is back and the perfect way to enjoy beautiful views of the city and the St Kilda foreshore in style. At 35 meters tall, the wheel is hard to miss, perched between The Esplanade and St Kilda Pier.

A full rotation takes 53 seconds and a ride lasts approximately 5 minutes. Mamma’s kids absolutely loved spotting different things (especially boats!) every time we reached the very top of a rotation.

Even though Mamma’s family went for a pre lunch ride, the wheel is open until 10:30pm so if you choose to go later it would be a beautiful way to take in the sunset or enjoy the lights of St Kilda after dark.

With 24 gondolas in total, you can choose to purchase individual tickets or reserve an entire gondola for the family (maximum capacity is 6 people). Make sure to book online ahead of time to receive a cheeky little discount.

If your little animal lovers are keen for a farm adventure with a twist, the Highland Cattle tractor-pulled carriage ride is the cutest countryside experience! Hop aboard the comfy carriage as the tractor rumbles its way through the paddocks, taking you on a slow cruise down to meet the cute little shaggy superstars — the Highland cows!

You’ll roll down to their paddock where everyone gets the chance to feed them some special grass; the cows know it’s the good stuff, as they literally race to greet you! The experience is always just a little bit magical, no matter how many times you visit. A visit here is a family treat and the joy on the kids faces is priceless - it truly is the land of happiness! Bring your own food to keep costs low, and if you live locally, consider an annual pass - it's exceptional value.

churchill island, phillip island

An island off an island! Churchill Island is a must do if you have a family and kids learning all the different animal noises.

An island off an island. Churchill Island is a must do if you have a family and kids learning all the different animal noises! This historic island is a little oasis and wonderful little spot to spend the afternoon, learning about Australian farm life.

The best time is the afternoon where the farm comes alive with whip cracking, cow milking, working dog demonstrations and sheep shearing. Although it is also the busiest time, there is plenty of room to see. There are your classic farm animals; cows, sheep, a couple of pigs and chooks. Then of course, keep your eyes out for a turkey, some ferrets, peacock and don’t forget to sneak behind the shearing shed to spy some wallabies.

The grounds of this farm are exquisite with stunning gardens surrounding the historical buildings and cottages. Here the family will learn about early European settler life in the original buildings on the property. Whether you bring a picnic lunch or dine in the cafe, you are bound to have an enjoyable visit.

discover french island, 4WD naturaliste tours

This is a truly unique experience that will create lasting memories – after all, it’s not every day you get to travel by ferry to a remote, off-grid island that’s twice the size of Phillip Island!

The serene and tranquil French Island is simply captivating. With Nature Parks making up over 75% of the island, rolling cow-filled hills, and koala-hugged trees, it’s a nature lover’s paradise.

This is a truly unique experience that will create lasting memories – after all, it’s not every day you get to travel by ferry to a remote, off-grid island that’s twice the size of Phillip Island!

The serene and tranquil French Island is simply captivating. With sprawling protected Nature Parks making up over 70% of the island, rolling cow-filled hills, and koala-hugged trees, it’s a nature lover’s paradise.

Mamma’s crew were enchanted by the abundance of wildlife - and the tranquillity - it feels like the whole island is yours to explore – far more peaceful than typical tourist spots.

Naturaliste tours begin the moment you step onboard the ferry, departing from either Stony Point or Cowes terminals. It’s just a quick 15-minute ride across – and if you’re lucky, you may spot dolphins, or even whales in season!

Once you reach French Island, your tour guide will meet you in a 4WD vehicle. Explore the ever-changing terrain as you bounce along to your first stop. Mamma’s Little Ones recommend sitting at the very back of the bus where you can really feel the motion over the back wheels– the giggles as you bounce out of your seat are priceless!

Your first stop is Mandalay Park, a restored farm stay with the loveliest owners. Here, you’ll enjoy a delicious lunch and learn about daily life on French Island, as well as some fascinating history. The island is home to just 131 residents, one school, a general store, and a fire station. There’s no council jurisdiction and no police stationed on the island!

After lunch, explore the farm, home to wild peacocks, dozens of bird species, stunning horses, and SO. MANY. KOALAS! Mamma has never seen koalas that are so active! These cuties often sit low in the trees, and if you’re lucky, you might even hear them calling to their mates.

When it’s time to move on, hop back on your 4WD and continue exploring the island. Visit the Chicory Kilns, wander through nature paths, take a short hike up to the Pinnacles for breathtaking island views, and stop along the way to greet the echidnas.

Finally, board the ferry back home, carrying with you lifelong memories – and a resolve to return again.. very soon!

This one’s for the animal lovers.
Livona Farm in Moorooduc offers farm based support services which focus on the therapeutic and restorative role animals play in our social and emotional wellbeing.

With donkeys, goats, sheep, pigs and chickens on site, visitors are treated to an open ended style of encounter that centres around gentle and meaningful connection with animals. Whether that means engaging in hands-on farm activities or simply sharing space with the beautiful (and hairy!) souls - it is entirely up to you!

Enter the field of donkeys (who absolutely LOVE a groom) or cosy up with the goats and sheep. Be charmed by the three (not so little) pigs - Pearl, Barry and Boris who can be found setting up camp in their enclosure or socialising with the goats through the fence.

The moment you drive through the gates of Livona you can tell the place has been built with love. With a background in nursing and qualifications in education support, Leigh the owner has created a space whose sole purpose is to positively contribute to the lives of all people and animals involved. Livona is a very special experience that will stick with children (and grownups) for a long time to come.

Sessions run from 30 minutes to an hour and must be booked through their website. Designed for groups of 1 - 4 people, Livona caters for children approximately 6 years of age and up (though under 10s must be accompanied by an adult at all times).
